Washington, D.C will host numerous high-profile events leading up to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration on Monday, January 20th. These events include protests, rallies, and ceremonial activities, each expected to draw significant crowds. The safety of our members, employees, and physicians is our top priority.

The Capitol Hill Medical Center will remain open for Advanced Urgent Care services from January 18-20, 2025.

Below are the known impacts to Kaiser Permanente Capitol Hill Medical Center on Monday, January 20, 2024.

Union Station:

  • Kaiser Permanente Capitol Medical Center will not be accessible using the corridor/tunnel connected to Union Station.
  • Patients who commute into Union Station will be required to walk around the secured perimeter to gain access to the building on 2nd Street which will remain open.

Preparation:

  • Please assess travel routes and plans to determine if other arrangements need to be made and allow for additional travel time.
  • Expect major foot traffic congestion with a heavy amount of policing agencies in and around Union Station, at all entrances/exits performing security sweeps/checks.
  • We recommend avoiding Union Station and using the 2nd Street entrance to access Kaiser Permanente.
  • The Metro will be operating on a modified schedule from January 19th at 8 p.m. to January 21st at 5 a.m.
  • Metro riders can expect a surge in Metro use on January 19th and 20th.

  • Check local media to receive timely updates in the event of disrupted travel routes.
  • Check traffic and news prior to departing work to make sure the planned exist route is clear.
  • Always keep a half tank of gas or more in your vehicle in the event there is significant traffic.
  • Keep your cell phone charged and have a charger available.
