With a click of a button, you can select from multiple lab locations and flexible weekday hours, all from the convenience of your home. After completing a quick questionnaire, you will be ordered the appropriate testing kit and provided with scheduling options.

What is the COVID-19 testing pickup option?

Pick up a COVID-19 testing kit at any of our Kaiser Permanente laboratory locations and return the kit to any drop off box location. Testing kits must be dropped off the same day you self-collect. Collection instructions are included in the kit.

Collections can be done in your car or at home. Completed testing kits must be returned same day at one of our conveniently located COVID-19 kit drop boxes. These boxes are located at the entrance of all Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic medical centers. Look for the grey box with an orange sign titled “COVID-19 Kit Drop Box”.

Samples that arrive to the laboratory more than 48 hours after collection are subject to rejection. Please follow all instructions in your collection kit and appropriately label your testing kit.

Where can I pick up my COVID-19 testing kit?

Testing kits are available at all Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic medical centers. Please use kp.org, the KP app or call member services to schedule a time for pickup.

Do I need a schedule a pickup for my testing kit?

Yes. COVID-19 testing kits are only available via scheduled lab appointments. Please use kp.org, the KP app or call member services to schedule a time for a kit pickup.

How do I return my testing kit?

Completed testing kits must be returned same day at one of our conveniently located COVID-19 kit drop boxes. These boxes are located at the entrance of all of our medical centers. Look for the grey box with an orange sign “COVID-19 Kit Drop Box”.

Most facilities are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M.- 4:30 P.M.

The following facilities are open 24/7 and testing kits can be dropped off at any time:

  • Gaithersburg Medical Center
  • Largo Medical Center
  • South Baltimore Medical Center
  • Tysons Medical Center
  • Woodbridge Medical Center

The following sites have expanded hours for testing kit drop off (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.):

  • Reston Medical Center
  • White Marsh Medical Center

Note: Please do not return completed testing kits to the clinics or the Advance Urgent Care centers.

How long before my results are available?

Most results will be available within 48 hours of receiving your testing kit.  We are currently experiencing unprecedented demand for COVID-19 testing. It could take up to several days to receive your results. We apologize for any inconvenience this may case and are working to turn around test results as fast as we can. It is recommended to self-isolate if you have had a recent exposure or are symptomatic until you receive results. Results will be made available on kp.org.

Can I pick up multiple testing kits for family members?

Yes, you can pick up testing kits for family members. Please schedule separate COVID-19 kit pickup appointments for each family member. Have a copy of the each family member’s Kaiser Permanente member ID card available at the time of pickup.

Who is eligible for this option?

The COVID-19 testing kit is suitable for all Kaiser Permanente members 2 years and above. Please see collection guideline below:

  • 18 years and up: Self-collect
  • 14 years and up: Self-collect under adult supervision
  • 2 years and up: Collect with adult assistance

What is the COVID-19 Self-swab option?

Members can pick up a self-swabbing kit via our lab drive-thru or at select laboratories. If you choose to go to a lab, a staff member will escort you to a private space to complete your collection on site. For drive-thru, members will complete their collection in their car.

After the collection is complete, leave your completed kit in the private room in the provided biohazard bag and notify the phlebotomist you are done before leaving. For the lab drive-thru, hand the completed testing kit in the provided biohazard back to the phlebotomist assisting you.

Where can I schedule COVID-19 self-swab test?

COVID-19 self-swab appointments are available at the following facilities, Monday through Friday, 8:40 a.m. – 4:50 p.m.:

Do I need to schedule a self-swab COVID-19 test?

Yes. Self-swab tests for COVID-19 are only available through scheduled lab appointments. Please use kp.org, the KP app or call Member Services to schedule your appointment.

How do I return my self-swabbed COVID-19 testing kit?

If at a lab, leave your completed kit in the private room in the provided biohazard bag for lab retrieval. Notify the phlebotomist you are done before leaving.

For the lab drive-thru, hand the completed kit in the provided biohazard back to the phlebotomist assisting you.

What is the COVID-19 swabbed by staff option?

Make an appointment to visit on of our COVID-19 collection drive-thru tents. At your appointment,  a staff member will collect your sample while you remain in your car. The staff member will complete your collection and package your sample for testing.

What medical centers can I be swab by staff?

Yes, you can bring multiple family members to be swabbed by staff at our COVID-19 collection tents. Please make an appointment for all family members that need testing and bring the member ID card for each member.
