Kaiser Permanente partners with Virginia Premier to provide integrated care to Virginia Medicaid members

Nov 06, 2018

Virginia Premier, an HMO serving approximately 220,000 members across the state, has partnered with Kaiser Permanente to deliver fully integrated care to Virginia residents receiving care through Medicaid. Starting October 1, this partnership will facilitate quality care for our 15,000 Medicaid members who are assigned to Medallion 4.0 by the Department of Medical Assistance Services.

Kaiser Permanente will be the primary care provider for these members, who will have access to physician care at our conveniently located medical centers and the ability to schedule appointments online.

“We’re always open to innovative, strategic partnerships that enable us to increase access to affordable, quality health care for Virginians, and this is an excellent opportunity to do that,” said Linda Hines, CEO of Virginia Premier. “By working with Kaiser Permanente, we’ll be able to serve more members, and Medicaid recipients will have more choices. It allows us to make the most of our position as one of six plans contracted by DMAS to fulfill the Medallion 4.0 contract.”

This alliance highlights the values that Virginia Premier and Kaiser Permanente share regarding quality, innovation, education, affordability, and service. By integrating these mutual strengths, they are in a better position to improve the health of the communities they serve.

“Through this collaboration with Virginia Premier, our members will still have access to the award-winning Kaiser Permanente doctors they know and trust,” said Kim Horn, president of Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States. “New members to this innovative program will also have access to Kaiser Permanente’s convenience and quality care by our physicians in Virginia.”

Members will receive new ID cards. Existing Kaiser Permanente members will be transferred to the new plan and maintain the same primary care physician.
