Choose your Permanente physician and change anytime

At Kaiser Permanente, we know how important it is to have a doctor who matches your specific needs. That’s why we make it easy for you to find one who’ll give you personalized care. And you can choose a different physician for each member of your family that’s covered by your plan.

Choose your doctor
You can browse our online doctor profiles at kp.org/doctor to find a personal doctor that’s right for you. There, you’ll see information related to their education, credentials, specialties, and interest areas, as well as whether or not they’re accepting new patients. You can choose a doctor with any of the following specialties:

  • Adult medicine/internal medicine
  • Family medicine
  • Pediatrics/adolescent medicine (for children up to 18)

If the doctor you’d like to select isn’t accepting new patients, you can call us at 800-777-7904 (TTY 711) for assistance.

Women should also choose an obstetrician-gynecologist (ob-gyn) in addition to their personal doctor. The ob-gyn is a woman’s personal physician who coordinates women’s health care needs while communicating with the primary care physician providing consistent, personalized care.

There are two ways to choose your personal doctor:

  1. Call 800-777-7904 (TTY 711), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  2. Go to kp.org/doctor

Once you’ve selected a doctor, you can schedule your first appointment. If you don’t choose a primary care physician or ob-gyn within the first 30 days of enrollment, one will be assigned to you.

Change your doctor
You can choose and change your doctor at any time, for any reason, by visiting kp.org/doctor or by calling 800-777-7904 (TTY 711).

Your personal doctor can also help refer you to specialists and will coordinate with your other physicians to make sure you receive the care you need.
